Finding the Right Project Management Tool

Small teams don’t need enterprise-grade project management. They need something that gets out of the way, keeps everyone on the same page, and doesn’t require a dedicated PM to manage.

We spent 6 weeks testing four popular platforms with teams of 3-15 people across different industries.

Our Recommendation: ClickUp

For small teams that want the most bang for their buck, ClickUp is tough to beat. The free plan alone covers most of what a team of 10 needs — tasks, docs, basic time tracking, and multiple views. You’d have to pay significantly more on other platforms to get the same feature set.

The downside is complexity. ClickUp packs in so many features that new users often feel lost. Budget time for onboarding.

For Simplicity: Asana

If ClickUp feels like too much, Asana is the antidote. It’s the most intuitive tool we tested — new team members typically get productive within minutes. The timeline view alone is worth the price of admission for teams that juggle multiple projects with dependencies.
